Louis/Dressner Selections Hiring

It has come to my attention that all serious wine importers and distributors have Brand Managers. Just the other day, I met New York's Alsace Willm Brand Manager.

Never, in my wildest imagination, would I have imagined that Alsace Willm had a New York Brand Manager. Perhaps, there is an Alsace Willm Brand Manager in every one of the 50 states. Given the demise of K-Mart, the collapse of the dot-coms, and the general economic recession, Alsace Willm is to be saluted for hiring young Americans who might otherwise be pounding the pavement looking for employment.

As part of our civic duties as successful importers, we are now hiring a Hérétiques Brand Manager. This position will report directly to the Louis/Dressner Value Brands Manager.

The Hérétiques Brand Manager will promote Hérétiques brand awareness, ensure full national Hérétiques distribution, organize consumer and trade Hérétiques promotional events, and distribute Hérétiques T-Shirts, baseball caps, key chains and ashtrays.

The applicant should have some of the general job qualifications and background discussed in the article below about getting into the wine industry. Former members of the drug industry are not welcome.

Please contact me by e-mail if you are interested in this position. Do not send me an attachment with your resumé. Sending a prospective employer an attachment that might have a computer virus is not an effective way of entering the wine industry.

Are you ready to meet the Hérétiques challenge?

What is the salary range? Benefits? Hours? Do I need my own car? Is there paid maternity leave? Childcare? Do you accept pets? Are meals included? How much vacation? Bonus? Commissions? Why the discrimination against drug dealers? Who else need not apply? Do you hire Irish? This whole job seems very vague. Best, Kay

I'm afraid you are not ready to meet The Hérétiques challenge.

Sorry Kay.

there are so many home testing kits on the market, home pregnancy tests, etc. perhaps there is a niche market for a home testing "are you a schnook" kit. rick

You can purchase them at your local K-Mart. Try the Martha Stewart Schnook Kit.

I throw my provebial hat into the ring. I'd love to rep Les Heretiques. I don't own a car, i don't shave daily but my family has drunk more d'Oupia than Iche's. For territory, I'll take Massachusetts and Madagascar. The latter being the key. According to the fifth edition of the World Atlas of Wines Madagascar ranks twentieth in litres per head of population. At 17.64 Litres they rank ahead Chile (16.24), The Netherlands (16.18) and The U.K. (14.22). They need a quality beverage like Les Heretiques. ABR

I want to personally thank ABR, the Anonymous Boston Retailer, for participating in this discussion. When do you project sending us the second part of your How to Get Into The Wine Industry series?
- Joe Dressner 1-24-2002 4:10 am

I know all about Brand managers, and especially the people who hire them. They always get it all wrong, thinking they need some kind of executive type, a corporate mba, that sort of thing. I'm telling you, look on the creative side. It's right there under your nose. Who, for example, did that label? Go with your strength, man. Jeff Connell

Can I take that to the bank?
- Joe Dressner 1-24-2002 5:42 am

Actually I think you can, but I'll have to double check with my Mom. Best, Kay

You'll get the next installment after a case of Les Heretiques arrives at the door of each member of my immediate family. All those over 21 of course. That way i'll have something to drink on major holidays where ever i may land. I may be a scnook but after all i am a retailer. If not send your rep, i'll eat her/him for lunch. ABR

Gulp. Is next Tuesday good for you? Best, Kay

What do you say to someone if they can sell the crap out of this stuff? Unorthodox wine can influence some true believers in this day and age. While you may "brand" me as a heretic, I think that this humble soul may have just the mojo to sell the doctrine off of this one. (That's no Tom Slocum-ism by the way...). We'll start in the land of steady habits and let the juice do the talking. Maybe some more pallets should be at the ready? And oh yeah,...what about commission or salary or what ever? A trip to the source might help "build the brand... tshane@ntplx.net
